The Pilgrimage Of Samael Angel

If you are reading this it means that this 6 years project is almost over and just about to be released worldwide. All the sweat, the trips to the hospital, the friends I've lost, the people who I've alienated, the time that I'll never get back, the death of my social life and all the other crappy things that I went through are about to be transformed into this craft.

This project tells the story of Samael Angel which will be divided into 3 chapters and it's merely entitled : The Pilgrimage Of Samael Angel.

The first chapter "Samael Angel" was released on June 25th 2009 and you can listen to it through the widget on the left.

The second chapter entitled "Samael's Sentience" was released on June 25th 2010 and can also be listened to through the second widget on the left.

The third chapter "The Credence Of Samael" will be released on June 25th 2011.

It's hard to label the genre of this project since it is very eclectic. It's more of a melting pot between rap, slam, rock, r&b, classical & storytelling. But we could sum it up and label it African Rap and/or Storytelling Rap.

Before you go and hit the play button of the players on the left or before you start downloading the entire trilogy all at once, please read this thread entirely.

First of all, you have to understand the name of the project :

Samael was the name that God gave Satan when he created him. God created the angels out of fire and mankind out of clay. As soon as his last pet project (Mankind) was done, he asked the first pet project (The Angels) to kneel before the latter. Samael refused, saying that he'd kneel only before his father (God). The war then broke out and Samael lost and was cast out of heaven. He re-baptized himself as the one who will bring the light in a world full of darkness (Lucifer : the bringer of light).

So Samael represent for me the purity of someone who I suspect to be evil. Samael is my character's first name and Angel his last name. He also has a nickname which is Mr Nice.

The Pilgrimage represents the journey Samael is on and the struggle he'll be facing. As a summary we could say that :

  1. Samael Angel : Is about hate, sins & discovering who Samael is
  2. Samael's Sentience : Is about passion, redemption & discovering Samael's roots
  3. The Credence Of Samael : Is about the acknowledgement and the fulfillment of Samael's fate

Here's The Story Of The Pilgrimage Of Samael Angel :

It is the tale of an angel who was born an impure being because of the sins of his parents.
Those sins will be eating him alive until it reaches the critical point
where it'll be crippling his soul, turning him into a magnificent devil.
Ergo he was born in sin, he will live a sinful life and will subsequently die because of those sins...

The whole project will depict the evolution of Samael Angel and his sinful ways. It'll also subsume his birth, his childhood, his pains, his adulthood, his sorrows, his joyful moments, all the murders and despicable acts, his lies, his friendships, his sickness, his political & religious views, his death and so much more...

I don't want to go into too much details in order not to spoil you anything since the project is a story unfolding from Samael's birth ("From His Birth...") to his fall ("The Fall Of A Devil") to his rebirth ("...To His Rebirth...") without forgetting his birth rights ("...To His Birth Rights") all the way until his death ("The Death Of An Angel").

I love the stories of characters who die at the end of the tale. That way, you know the end is not the most important aspect of the story. It's more how you get to that end, ergo the journey, which is actually interesting.

This project is massive since it's more a triple disc album than three separate and distinct albums. If you listen to all the songs you'll be following Samael's evolution but if you only listen to the song 03 of the first album (for example) it'll merely be the story of a guy facing some problems which you might relate to.

In fact, the first drafts of the project was written so that you wouldn't have to listen to the previous song in order for you to comprehend the next one. However I've found the story at the end "too light" and not deep enough. That's when I throw all of my lyrics in the garbage and started from scratch.

The project is mostly in English with a tendency to American English which is the one I speak (with an accent) on a daily basis. However there'll be one song in French (Lemures Ex Preteritus Feat. Daddy Moa2).

Most of the songs will be rapped and sang except the prayers song which will be in slam. Those songs will act as conduits between all the songs. Since it's a story I only rap about the most interesting part of Samael's life therefore a lot of aspects are being left out. So those left out parts will be incorporated in the prayers' songs where I'll merely be telling huge chunk of the tale :

All of the songs were written by me, except the ones where there's some featuring since I write them in concordance with the artist I invite on that song.

The Pilgrimage Of Samael Angel was recorded and mixed by M. Vergine & co-mixed by myself at studio 52 (France).

It was then mastered by Dr Jazz (Fresh Blunt) in France.

The composition of the entire project was done by a lot of people without whom this wouldn't have been possible.

Therefore I wanna thank all the composers of this project : Slantize, Sinima, Anno Domini, VTZ, Boonie Mayfield, Nebula, William C. Walker, Mister KA, L-WrenAnsane, E-Motion-L, Da Cypha, 2Deep, Vherbal & Nicolas Szmytko.

Thence, ladies & gentlemen I present to you The Pilgrimage Of Samael Angel
